KARAK: The association of retired educationists has demanded immediate launch of classes in the two newly-established girls’ colleges in the district.

The demand was made at a meeting chaired by the association’s president Prof Akhter Kamal.

They regretted that backward areas of the district were still deprived of girl high schools, which was a hurdle in ensuring women education, and demanded that equal opportunities of education should be given to girls across the district.

They said construction of girls’ degree college, Sabirabad, was completed about four years ago, but classes were yet to start. Similarly, they added classes in the girls’ degree college, Banda Daud Shah, were not started as yet, which was injustice with the local girls.

The meeting regretted that the ratio of girls’ education was already deplorable in the district due to shortage of women educational institutions and the parents were forced to settle in other cities for the sake of their children’s education.

The speakers also demanded that more girls’ colleges be established in the district.

They said shortage of staff, particularly teachers of science subjects, in girls schools and colleges should be fulfilled.

They said as the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf-led provincial government had imposed educational emergency in the province it should resolve education-related problems on priority basis.

FUMIGATION DEMANDED: The residents have demanded fumigation in Karak city and its outskirts to prevent outbreak of diseases like dengue and malaria caused by mosquito bite.

Talking to media persons here on Monday, they complained that many cases of dengue had also been reported in the district, creating unrest among the people.

They also demanded of the health department to create awareness among people about the precautionary measures to prevent dengue and malaria. The elders demanded that the Tehsil Municipal Administration Karak should carry out anti-malarial spray, besides making arrangements for drainage of stagnant water from city areas.

They pointed out that the health department left the Karak city in its fumigation drive, which was unjust.
