RAWALPINDI:  Law enforcement agencies and Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) in Rawalpindi and Islamabad have been directed to secure exit and entry points of the twin cities.

The directives have been issued in the light of intelligence that terrorists were planning to target some important events, possibly the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf sit-in or mega trade convoy in very near future.

An ‘alert’ had been issued to the Regional Police Officer Rawalpindi, and Inspector General of Police Islamabad, Intelligence Bureau.

“Possibly, the PTI rally or sit-in and mega trade convoy related to China Pakistan Economic Corridor could be their target,” sources said. An explosive laden vehicle is likely to be moved from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), it said.

According to the sources, the law enforcement agencies and intelligence had been directed to check vehicles entering into the twin-cities.

Tensions are also running high over the upcoming PTI’s planned lockdown of the capital, as thousands of police have been mobilised to maintain peace during the protest and protect the public and government property.
