KARACHI: Deputy mayor Arshad Vohra has announced that the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation will establish Sadequain Institute for Children soon to groom young artists in basic painting and calligraphy.
He made this announcement while unveiling a marbled mural, with calligraphy by Sadequain, placed in the lawns of the Frere Hall that houses the Sadequain Gallery, and is visible from the roadside.
The deputy mayor paid tribute to the late artist and calligraphist and said the KMC would renovate this gallery and make it even better for the art lovers and students.
He said that the KMC would patronise and encourage all efforts for the promotion of arts and culture. He said the planned Sadequain Institute for Children would prove to be a great learning place for the young artists.
E-books project
Besides, he said that 55,000 books and newspapers dated from 1845 to present day era in the Liaquat Library, housed in the ground floor of the Frere Hall, will be converted into computerized books so that citizens could have an easy access to the e-books.
Senior KMC officials including Saif Abbas, Masood Alam, Abdullah Mushtaq, Tariq Naseer, and others were also present on the occasion.
