GWADAR: Two personnel of the Pakistan Coast Guards (PCG) were shot dead on Sunday night by gunmen in the coastal town of Jiwani, some 140km from here.

Official sources said that two civilians were injured when the gunmen opened indiscriminate fire on the PCG personnel.

A police officer said the PCG personnel were visiting the main bazaar in Jiwani when the gunmen attacked them with automatic weapons.

“The two personnel belonged to the intelligence unit of the PCG and were targeted by gunmen riding a motorcycle,” said the SHO of the Jiwani police station, Chakar Khan Baloch.

He identified the deceased as Naik Mehmood and Sepoy Ishtiaq and said they died on the spot after receiving multiple bullet wounds.

The two injured civilians, Abid Hussain and Muhammad Sabir, were taken to a local hospital for treatment, he said. Hussain is a relative of one of the slain PCG personnel.

The assailants managed to flee from the crime scene. No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.

Body found

The bullet-riddled body of a Levies Force member, who had been kidnapped earlier, was found in Hoshab area of Kech district on Sunday evening.

Levies sources said that Constable Ali Bakhsh had been kidnapped sometime ago by armed men in Kelkour area of Balgather when he was on duty.

“The kidnappers shot him in his head and chest,” a Levies official said.

No individual or group immediately claimed responsibility for the killing.
