LAHORE: A youth died while his two friends landed in a hospital after consuming toxic liquor in Chuhng on Saturday.

Police said Sarmad Rafique, 22, of Bahawalnagar, planned to celebrate his birthday with his friends at his rented flat in Shabbir Town on Friday night.

Rafique invited his friends Saleh Rehman, 21, and Faizan, 22, both of Bahawalnagar, to his flat where they consumed liquor.

Police said Rafique and his friends had a dinner late on Friday night and again went to the flat to sleep.

They said Rafique’s younger brother Jawad got up in the morning and went to attend his classes at a university. Jawad came back to the flat around 11am where he found his brother with his friends unconscious.

He called Rescue 1122 and shifted the victims to Jinnah Hospital where doctors pronounced Rehman dead and two others critical.

Police said Faizan after treatment regained consciousness and was said to be stable. Rafique was shifted to Farooq Hospital in a critical condition.

Chuhng police shifted the body to morgue for autopsy and recorded statements of eyewitnesses.

SHO Inspector Shahid Ali told Dawn that the victims were students of a private university. He said they consumed tainted alcohol on Friday night, adding the body was shifted to morgue but Rehman’s family was not interested in autopsy.
