Shia communities across the Muslim world on Tuesday commemorated the death of Imam Hussain.

Shia communities across the Muslim world on Tuesday commemorated the death of Imam Hussain on Ashura, the 10th day of Muharram.

Imam Hussain was martyred along with members of his family during the Battle of Karbala that took place in 61 A.H. in modern-day Southern Iraq.

In Iraq, Afghanistan and Iran, children and adults participate in reenactments of the Battle of Karbala by wearing armour and mounting horses.

In India-held Kashmir, restrictions have been placed on processions marking Ashura as part of a severe crackdown on dissent by Indian forces anxious to quell anti-India protests in the region.

Pakistan is known and admired around the world for the azadari of Imam Hussain (as). More poetry has been written in memory of Imam Hussain in Urdu than in any other language. When I was in Pakistan, Sunnis and Shias would unite in commemorating the tragedy of Karbala - I hope that is the case even today.

All these countries commemorate shahadat of Imam Hussain and his companions in their own traditional way but important thing is that world has not forgotten it even after 14 centuries.

Insan ko baidaar to ho lainey do, Har qom pokarey gi hamarey hain Hussain, Unn k hatho se luti bagh e risalat ki bahar, jo namazo mein sada parhtey rahe salley alla. jab kabi ghairat e insan ka sawal aata hai, bint e Zehra tairey pardey ka khayal aata hai.
