HAMZA Ghanchi ... marathon knock.

KARACHI: Opener Hamza Ghanchi rewrote the record books by compiling an undefeated 300 for his maiden first-class century as Karachi Whites amassed 628-5 declared against NBP on the second day of their second-round fixture in the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy National Cricket Championship at the NBP Sports Complex here on Saturday.

The 21-year-old left-hander, who was batting with a career-best 132 in his team’s tally of 266-1 on Friday evening, reached the coveted milestone in the final session of play after spending 654 minutes at the crease during which he faced 470 balls and hit 32 boundaries. Skipper Shahzaib Hasan immediately closed the innings before fast bowler Tabish Khan grabbed two wickets in the space of four balls to leave NBP tottering at 29-2.

But the day belonged to Hamza and his overnight partner Behram Khan. The pair added a massive 343 in 442 minutes before Behram departed for a 309-ball 155 (16 fours and one six).

After their atrocious fielding effort on Friday, Karachi Blues were in some strife at 184-6 after dismissing Wapda for 342 in their first innings at the National Stadium. Left-arm pacer Abdul Ameer took 6-79 in 25.5 overs, including the overnight duo of Mohammad Saad (106 off 264 balls, 12 boundaries) and Kamran Akmal, who fell without adding to Friday’s score of 77 to end a fourth-wicket stand of 146 with Saad.

Lahore Blues were 90-2 after Umar Siddique struck 185 off 351 balls with 24 fours to help UBL collect 448 at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. Pakistan limited-overs opener Sharjeel blasted 96 from 111 balls.

PIA’s dismal start to the season continued as they were sent packing for 175 by Lahore Whites at the LCCA Ground to give the regional outfit a commanding first-innings of 190 runs.
