ISLAMABAD: The appointment of the mayor of the Islamabad Metropolitan Corporation (IMC) Sheikh Ansar Aziz as chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA) has been challenged before the Islamabad High Court.
The petitioners, Raja Ahsaan Satti and Mohammad Umer Abbasi, challenged the said appointment via their counsel Shafqat Abbasi and cited secretary establishment division, secretary Capital Administration and Development Division, the Ministry of Interior and Mayor Aziz as respondents.
The petitioners said that the mayor was given additional charge as CDA chairman on Sept 6 through a notification.
“He is not supposed to make major policy decisions which might cause problems/complications/far reaching effects for the CDA’s future functioning,” the petition said.
It said that the mayor was also not supposed to make appointments which have an effect on CDA or IMC policies.
According to the petition, a CDA chairman should be independent, impartial, neutral, professional and above political affiliations whereas the office of the mayor is political, nominated and elected by members of the house who are elected on party tickets.
