KARACHI: An FIR was registered in the case of missing writer and publisher on Wednesday.
The Gadap police registered the FIR on the complaint of Wahid’s eldest daughter, Hani Wahid, against intelligence agencies under Section 365 (kidnapping or abducting with intent secretly and wrongfully to confine person) of the Pakistan Penal Code.
The complaint was registered a day after the Sindh High Court (SHC) directed the station house officer (SHO), Khan Nawaz, to register an FIR whenever the petitioner in the case approaches him. Wahid’s family filed a petition on Aug 2 after the Gadap SHO allegedly did not register an FIR when approached the day Wahid was picked up at the Superhighway toll plaza.
Hani was accompanied to the police station by members of the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) and other civil society members.
Provincial vice chairperson of the HRCP Asad Iqbal Butt said they reached the police station around 11am. “Yet, it took us two hours to persuade the DSP to register the FIR against the intelligence agencies rather than unidentified men,” he added.
