Banning artistes gives victory to terrorists, says Junoon's Salman Ahmad

Ahmad hopes to tour India to promote his upcoming album soon
Updated 27 Sep, 2016

Junoon founder Salman Ahmad will soon release the band's silver jubilee album Junoon 25 and hopes he'd be able to tour India to promote the same.

Speaking to IANS, the Sufi-rocker said that stopping cultural exchanges between the two neighbouring nations is not the solution.

"Banning artistes, writers, actors and poets gives a victory to the terrorists and extremists who don't want people-to-people contact," he said.

"We live in an inter-connected world," added Salman. "Indian actor Om Puri, whose Pakistani film Actor In Law is doing record business in Pakistan, recently visited Pakistani cities and TV shows promoting the film. Indian artistes are embraced by Pakistanis. Similarly, Indian music companies, film producers and event organisers invite Pakistani artistes because it also makes good business."

Ahmad is looking forward to perform in India soon, and he isn't concerned about safety.

He recalled that when Junoon first visited India in 1998, people asked him the same question as a nuclear bomb test had been conducted by India that year.

Far from hatred or fear, he said that the band received "nothing, but just love" from Indian fans.

Sir, then its time for artists to stand up and condemn terrorists. You cannot keep mum and expect world to assume which side you are.

Fair comment. We should then seriously ask why and who attacked the Sri Lankan cricketers in Pakistan which has made international cricket being played here impossible for indefinite? It was a clear case of a plot which was to marginalize the Pakistan Cricket Team.

@Shakeel Ahmed LTTE had taken responsibility of attack on Sri Lankan cricket team. It was a revenge of LTTE against Sri Lanka for killing their leader. LTTE is Sri Lanka based terrorist organisation which fight for Tamil's rights in Sri Lanka. Sri Lankan government has brutally killed thousands of tamils in Sri Lanka to crush their movement against Sri Lankan government. My nation is against LTTE, and she has suffered loss of her former PM ... Late Mr. Rajiv Gandhi, just because of sending peace forces to help Sri Lanka fight against LTTE. Finally, if you still wanna believe in conspiracy theories, it's your wish, no one can stop you. God bless you.
