Mobile phone imports down 12pc

ISLAMABAD: Imports of mobile phones decreased 12 per cent to $92.7 million in July-August on a year-on-year basis, according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

Mobile phone imports were $105.4m in the first two months of the preceding fiscal year.

According to the PBS, imports in August decreased 22.5pc to $46.5m compared to the same month a year ago.

On a month-on-month basis, the import of cell phones in August witnessed a slight increase of 0.65pc, as it amounted to $46.2m in July.

Overall telecom imports declined 9.7pc to $174.4m in July-August, as they amounted to $193.2m in the first two months of the preceding fiscal year.

On a monthly basis, telecom imports rose to $100.2m in August, up 34.9pc from $74.2m in July.
