LAHORE: Valuables were gutted when a fire erupted in a shoe factory at Timber Market on Ravi Road on Sunday.

The fire erupted in the shoe factory’s second floor room when the unit was closed due to holiday. The security guard alerted the owner and Rescue 1122 and 12 fire-fighting vehicles reached the spot and launched efforts to extinguish the fire. The rescuers controlled the flames in three and a half hours after which they cleared the building.

According to rescuers, the factory owner had dumped some chemical meant to polish the shoes in a room of the second floor which caught fire. The fire engulfed the building within no time. There was a loss of valuables but the exact cost of the material could not immediately be ascertained.
