Is Zindagi TV considering a ban on Pakistani dramas?

Zee’s head honcho Subhash Chandra tweeted plans about removing all Pakistani content from Zindagi TV

First, there was talk of a ban of Bollywood films starring Pakistani stars. Now, Pakistani TV dramas are likely to get axed.

In a couple of tweets yesterday, ZEE Chairman Dr Subhash Chandra hinted that Hindu-Urdu channel Zindagi TV is soon to have a revised programming schedule that is free of Pakistani content.

Dr Subhash said this is response to Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's stance at the United Nations:

In addition to hinting that Pakistani artists should leave, he announced his intention to shift programming to the stories of Indian Muslims, rather than rely on Pakistani dramas:

Zindagi is an Zee networks' Hindi-Urdu entertainment television channel that runs syndicated content from countries such as Pakistan, Egypt and Turkey. It is credited for broadening the fanbase of Pakistani dramas across the border with shows like Zindagi Gulzar Hai and Humsafar enjoying phenomenal success. Such is the popularity of Pakistani stars in India now that Zindagi TV recently hosted a Fawad Khan festival. It was also one of the sponsors of Zeal For Unity initiative that sought to foster friendly Pak-India relations through short films.

Such a pity that educated Indians are so afraid and influenced by their incompetent and corrupt politicians. Says a lot for the so called largest democracy.

To be honest if this happens it will be very sad. We and large number of viewers in India love Pakistani serials. The stories are very gripping with pertinent social issues and each serial ends within very reasonable time frame. Characters are right from neighbourhood, wearing daily wear and not decked up within million dollar jewellery speaking artificial language. Dialogues, direction, photography, setting are just superb. At times the sound recording needs attention. It is wonderful to see strong but real women characters in play and stories moving fast. Not a moment is wasted in unnecessary time wasting spins.

These things are governed by market and money. Zee Zindgi is not doing well. Last weeks TRP of Zee Zindagi was mere 3 against 154 of Star, 134 of colors. They have to do something innovative. Dubbed Serials that too of distant culture never succeed in country where channels and movies are available in huge number.

@Sudhanshu Swami They play Pakistani serials which are few years old and available on you tube. People might be juming on the internet to finish it if they like it. This might be one of the reasons for low TRPs.

It is their own cultural and intellectual loss. Pakistani dramas are deep, descent, meaningful and substantive-by banning these plays from Pakistan, Z television would be depriving Indians not only of classy entertainment but also of an opportunity to learn and expand their vision and refine their thought and mind.

@R. Azhar Zindagi channel is already very boring. The Pak dramas they select to be aired are seriously very boring, slow paced majority of them showing women as very weak and fragile. The Turkish dramas also haven't gained that much in spite of brilliant acting and a good story line. Can't say if the decision is good or bad though.

@R. Azhar there are numerous Indian serials on muslim live and community. Remember that Urdu was a language that originated and evolved in India. Besides there are Muslims in almost every State of India with their own identity and culture. suffice to say that the loss of pakistani serials will nor leave the Indians bereft.
