Favourites sweep races at KRC

KARACHI: In a rare feat, the trio of owner, rider and trainer celebrated a splendid double as favourites swept a small three-race card in the Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Saturday.

With two wins already under her belt on Aug 14 and Sept 4, the unknown pedigree bay mare Sunrise overcame filly My Time by half-a-length to complete hat-trick.

Filly Loot Lo settled third another half-a-length away while colt Doctor completed the frame further beaten by neck among nine starters.

Owned by KRC steward Irfan Mehdi, the victorious filly was piloted home by its regular rider M. Manzoor. It was trained by Shahid Mannan.

Fresh from the triumph in the second race, Manzoor again obliged all and sundry while galloping three-year-old dark bay colt Blue Chip to three-and-a-half lengths victory over bay horse Aslan in the next race to complete a back-to-back double.

Blue Chip has overcome the victory jinx after finishing second on the board on the last five occasions.

Filly Satisfy had to be content with third place a length-and-a-quarter away while filly Miss Oscar completed the frame as the field was reduced to seven horses following withdrawal of Over Dosed before the race.

At the outset, fancied filly Duran Duran made amends sprinting to two lengths victory over colt Achievement in the opener. Rane The Great and Beautiful Rose followed the two in same order.
