KARACHI: The pending examination results of 95,000 BSEK students will be announced by Monday, Anti-Corruption Cell chairman Ghulam Qadir Thebo said while speaking to the media at the end of a workshop held for ACE employees at a hotel on Friday.

Referring to the cases of alleged corruption and illegal appointments involving chairman of the Board of Secondary Education Karachi (BSEK) Anwar Ahmed Zai, he said the chairman was suspected of tampering with 94 examination results in exchange for money during his tenure as chairperson of the Mirpurkhas board and later as Karachi board’s.

Mr Zai was arrested on Aug 25 after arrest warrants were issued against him by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) over alleged tampering of examination results, out of turn promotions and illegal appointments.

Mr Thebo added that the pending examination results of 95,000 students, held back after the arrest of the BSEK chairperson, will be announced by Monday.

He said that although the anti-corruption cell has arrested officials of BSEK in the past, this case involving Mr Zai Zai was looked into by NAB to avoid “double jeopardy” in court. It was better if one institution followed the case till the end to avoid confusion, he added.
