KARACHI: The Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) of police on Sunday arrested a police officer who had allegedly kidnapped two traders a few days ago and demanded a handsome amount of money for their release.

“The AVCC police apprehended Tipu Sultan SHO Mohammed Saleem and recovered two kidnapped traders from his custody,” said CIA police chief Sultan Khowaja.

Mr Khowaja told Dawn that the police officer had kidnapped the traders and demanded Rs1.5 million from his relatives for releasing him.

A police spokesperson in a statement said that on Aug 26 two persons, identified as Nazeer Ahmed and Zakir Husain, went missing in the Saeedabad police station area in west district.

Their relatives received a phone call demanding money for their release, said the police spokesperson.

AVCC officials were informed about the incident and they were working on the location and mobile phone numbers and the both victims were located in the Tipu Sultan police station. Their release was settled at Rs1.5 million.

“West district police and the AVCC were working on the case and recovered both the abductees from the Tipu Sultan police station and arrested its SHO, Mohammed Saleem.”
