KARACHI: The Gymkhana race meeting that was scheduled to take place at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday had to be cancelled after heavy rain lashed the city for the second successive day.

“We’ve made the course ready for the races after Saturday’s rainfall but when it started raining on Sunday we were left with no other option than to announce immediate cancellation of the races,” a spokesman for the Karachi Race Club (KRC) told Dawn.

The KRC secretary, Syed Ali Akbar Shah Rashdi, said Saturday’s rain along with the winds have caused a lot of damage at the premises including uprooting of the trees and railing at various places besides flooding of water.

The KRC official said he had deployed extra people who cleared the racing track the other day.

He said the next Gymkhana race meeting will be held on Sunday, Sept 4.
