LAHORE: The quorum issue continued to haunt the Punjab Assembly proceedings for the third consecutive day on Friday as the ruling PML-N has announced taking notice of the absence of its MPAs from the assembly business.
Just 15 lawmakers were present when the proceedings began about an hour late than its scheduled time of 9am. The house took up written queries regarding the Colonies department during the Question Hour but eight of the 11 written queries remain unanswered even after three years.
The movers protested and urged Speaker Rana Iqbal to take action against the department.
In the meantime, PML-Q’s Ahmed Shah pointed out a lack of quorum in the House. The chair ordered ringing of bells for five minutes but not more than 35 lawmakers assembled, forcing it to adjourn proceedings for Monday afternoon.
PML-N’s Rana Arshad said the party had taken notice of the continuous absence of MPAs from the proceedings and decided to take action against the habitual absentees besides deducting their salaries and other perks for the last three days.
He said steps were also being taken to ensure presence of all PML-N lawmakers in the house.
