LAHORE: The Punjab health department and the Turkish health ministry on Friday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in Istanbul to uplift the healthcare system and public healthcare programme in the province with the cooperation of the Turkish ministry.

Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif was the chief guest in the ceremony while Turkish Health Minister Recep Akdag was also present. Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah and Dr Eyup Gumus signed the MoU.

The Public Health Institute of Turkey would provide technical assistance for reforms and modernisation of the Institute of Public Health Punjab while cooperation would also be promoted in the safe disposal of hospital waste and infection control in health facilities. Exchange of experiences in the control of Congo virus would also be ensured.


Turkish healthcare model to be implemented in Punjab: CM


Earlier, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif met Turkish Health Minister Recep Akdag.

Speaking on the occasion, Shahbaz said benefit would be taken from the Turkish model for improving the healthcare system in Punjab. He said health facilities of the level of Turkey would be extended to the patients in public hospitals and the MoU would help uplift healthcare system of the province.

The CM also paid tributes to the Turkish leadership and struggle of people of the country in foiling the coup last month.

During the meeting, both the leaders agreed on the visit of a special delegation of Turkish healthcare experts to Punjab next month which would submit its recommendations after a review of healthcare system in the province.

Shahbaz said an effective healthcare system would be evolved in Punjab in the light of recommendations of Turkish health experts.

The chief minister also met Speaker Grand National Assembly of Turkey Ismail Kahraman and discussed bilateral relations.
