PESHAWAR: Doctors at the city’s Lady Reading Hospital have recovered over two dozen metallic and glass objects from a girl’s stomach after she was brought to the facility for treatment of severe abdominal pain.
Dr Sajjad Mohammad Khan, an LRH surgeon identified the patient as 22 years old Maryam, a resident of Parachinar area of Kurram Agency.
He said that the patient was married and her husband was abroad in Sudia Arabia. However, he had no children.
Dr Khan said that family told doctors that she had been treated for mental problems for past three to four years. He said that the patient was brought to the hospital some three days back after she was brought to Peshawar due to severe abdominal pain. He said that the patient was vomiting when she was brought to the city.
He said that when they performed an X-ray on her, it showed metallic objects in her stomach.
He said that to extract these objects, they operated upon on her and recovered 22 nails, three pieces of glass and three pins from her stomach.
Dr Khan said that the family said that they were not aware of how she ingested these objects and so did the patient herself.
The doctor said that currently the patient was stable and under observation and would be discharged within next two to three days.
