SHANGLA: The local farmers have demanded of the government to immediately fill the vacant posts in the local agriculture department, which is causing difficulties for them.

Jehanul Mulk, president of Shangla farmers association, told reporters here on Friday that the key posts in the local agriculture department had been lying vacant since long. He said due to vacant posts routine work of the department was being hampered. He said farmers visited the office daily, but returned without having their problems resolved. “We need proper training to boost agriculture produce as Shangla is a fertile land where vegetables and many types of fruits are grown,” he said.

TEAMS SHORTLISTED: Four teams from Shangla have been shortlisted for participation in the Malakand sports gala, which is beginning today (Saturday) in Buner district organised by Pak Army.

The trials for selecting the teams were organised by Shangla sports department in collaboration with the army here the other day. Deputy commissioner Dildar Ahmed, Maj Atif of army, district sports officer Pervez Khan and other relevant officials supervised the trials.

Speaking on the occasion, Dildar Ahmed said both mental and physical involvement in the games was a must to win matches. He said Shangla youth were talented and they would win the sports gala.

He said he was endeavouring to have playgrounds constructed in Shangla to give youth an opportunity to polish their skills.

District sports officer Pervez Khan said four teams would participate in football, volleyball, tug-of-war and marathon race.
