PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government on Wednesday signed a memorandum of understanding with SK Hydro and Industrial and Commercial Bank of China for construction of 870 megawatt Suki Kinari hydropower project.
A statement issued here said that under the agreement the mega project would be completed at a cost of Rs200 billion within five years.
The province besides getting Rs1.5 billion annual water use charges will also get additional 113MW electricity of its share.
The electricity produced from this project would be transferred to national grid for further distribution to the entire country. After 30 years, the project would be handed over to the government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and its full income would be given to the province.
On the occasion, provincial energy minister Atif Khan said that hydel power generation was not only cheap it also put positive impact on environment.
