SWABI: In a unanimous resolution here on Wednesday the district assembly members demanded of the government to recruit 500 more policemen in the district to strengthen the local police force.

The resolution was passed on the day when district police officer Javid Iqbal presented the six-month performance report in the district assembly.

This was the first time that the DPO presented the police performance report in the district assembly.

Members of the assembly later told this correspondent that the district police force should be strengthened in view of the rapidly increasing population of the district. “With the induction of 500 more policemen in the district police we hope that the security in the district would be enhanced, which is one of the top priorities of the government,” said district nazim Ameer Rehman.

The assembly members also prayed for all those who had laid down their life for the motherland while fighting against militants.

Meanwhile, Gul Haider who belonged to Mangal Chai village of mountainous region of Gadoon Amazai was killed by unidentified attackers in Kadi area here on Wednesday.

Registering an FIR in Zaida police station, brother of the deceased said that Mr Haider was ill and had come for treatment, but he was killed by unknown people.

He said that they had no enmity with anyone.

Police registered an FIR and have started investigations.
