PESHAWAR: The Fata Political Alliance has threatened to launch agitation if its three main demands, including abolition of FCR, implementation of the 1973 Constitution and Fata’s merger with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, are not accepted.

Speaking at a news conference at the Peshawar Press Club on Tuesday, the alliance’s president Nisar Mohmand threatened to launch protest sit-ins and mass processions by mobilising tribesmen if their demands were not accepted.

He said a group of certain people was reluctant to bring reforms in Fata as it was getting personal privileges in the presence of FCR. He said FCR was a draconian law which was introduced in the tribal area to suppress and deprive the tribesmen of their rights.

Mr Mohmand said the alliance had formed a committee to study the Fata Reforms Committee’s report and after that the political parties’ body would decide the future course of action.

Flanked by Iqbal Afridi of PTI, Zar Noor Afridi of JI and Advocate Latif Afridi, the alliance chief warned that tribesmen were well aware of their rights and would not succumb to any pressure.

“We want basic human rights restored in the tribal belt and the extension of high court and Supreme Court jurisdiction to Fata,” he said and added they would not tolerate further injustices with the tribal people.

Mr Mohmand said they would also organise big processions in different frontier regions.
