LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Friday directed the Punjab health department to take doctors into confidence on the Central Induction Policy.

Hearing petitions of several doctors against the policy, Justice Shahid Jamil also observed it appeared that the government wanted to push doctors towards criminal activities.

Legal counsel of the doctors argued that the government introduced the central induction policy restraining doctors of private hospitals from working with public sector health facilities. The lawyer said the policy amounted to economic murder of doctors.

The health department’s counsel opposed the petition and claimed that the policy would benefit the doctors. He said the central induction policy was introduced to ensure better and quick treatment to patients at hospitals.

Justice Jamil adjourned hearing of the petition till Aug 4 and directed the health department to sit with doctors, the real stakeholders, to resolve the issue.
