PESHAWAR: An anti-terrorism court here on Thursday convicted two persons, including a police officer, and sentenced them to life imprisonment for kidnapping a person for ransom last year.

Judge Abdur Rauf Khan ruled that the prosecution had proved its case against the two accused persons, Farman Khan, a sub-inspector of police, and Zulfiqar Khan, and the evidence on record connected them with the commission of the offence.

An FIR was registered against the accused on July 23, 2015 at police station Khazana in Peshawar on the complaint of kidnapped person Mohammad Iqbal, a resident of Swabi district.

The complainant claimed that the police official had kidnapped him from near Northern Bypass Road and locked him in a hujra on Haryana Road.

He stated that in the meantime the official called his family members and told them that the police had recovered explosive material from him and if they were paid Rs1 million they would not register the case.

The complainant stated that he was released by the kidnappers after receiving the money from his family members. The accused were charged under Section 365-A, 148, 149, 347 and 155-C of Pakistan Penal Code and Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act.
