RAWALPINDI: The district food department has begun action against substandard food at hotels and restaurants and unhygienic kitchens, sealing four eateries, registering cases against 12 restaurants and issuing notices to 25 outlets for unhygienic conditions.
Action was taken after the provincial government expressed dissatisfaction with the local administration, particularly the food, auqaf and health departments, for not checking the hygiene conditions at food outlets or the anti-dengue measures taken by commercial outlets.
A week ago, District Coordination Officer Sajid Zafar Dall directed the food department to perform to save the residents from dengue fever and seasonal ailments during the monsoon, after which the department took action against hotels and restaurants, through teams supervised by the food controller, Ijaz Ahmed Sial.
According to an official statement, the teams issued notices to 25 roadside outlets in the downtown areas as they did not store water in clean containers and failed to maintain cleanliness in their kitchens.
