PESHAWAR: Top seed Komal Khan and second seed Laiba Ijaz reached the second round of the Abdul Sattar Edhi Memorial Women Squash Championship here at the PAF Hashim Khan Squash Complex on Thursday.

In the first match, Laiba defeated Noor-ul-Ain 11-6, 11-8, 11-5 in a battle largely dominated by the former.

Noor showed resistance in the second game, and at one stage had earned a significant lead of 8-2 but her opponent came back strongly and first tied the tally 8-8 and then pocketed the game 11-8. Laiba required less effort in winning the third game and with it the match.

Meanwhile, Komal recorded a 11-6, 11-7, 11-9 victory against Sana Khan.

In the other matches held on Thursday, Hira overpowered Areeba 5-11, 11-7, 11-9, 12-10; Maira beat Manahil 11-8, 11-5, 11-6; fourth seed Nimra Akeel overcame Arooj Khan 12-10, 11-9, 11-8; third seed Kainat Khan defeated Rida 11-9, 8-11, 11-7, 12-10; Eman edged out Asma Pari 12-10, 9-11, 12-10, 11-7; and Naima Khalid, a promising player, outclassed Neha 11-6, 11-5, 11-8.
