SIALKOT: Nine villages were inundated as Nullah Aik overflowed near Oora village late on Wednesday.

Floodwater entered houses in Oora, Syedanwali, Haripur, Raypur, Langriyaali, Gopalpur and Jodheywali villages. No immediate loss of life or property was reported.

A peak of 31,080 cusecs passed through Nullah Dek near Oora that was in very high flood after allegedly the sudden release of water by India.

District Coordination Officer Dr Asif Tufail and Irrigation Secretary retired Capt Saif Anjum visited the flood-hit areas.

Talking to Dawn by phone, DCO Tufail claimed the flood situation was under control and relief activities going on there.

A spokesperson for the district administration told Dawn that India suddenly released peaks of water in both big nullahs Aik and Dek, due to which they were in very high flood near Oora and Chahoor-Dariya Nangal, Pasrur tehsil.

Irrigation officials said there were threats of breaches in protective dykes over Nullah Dek near Dariya Nangal village in Pasrur tehsil.
