RAWALPINDI: The Chaklala Cantonment Board (CCB) has demanded the Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) increase its water share from Khanpur Lake to end water shortage in the areas under its administrative control.
The CCB vice president, Raja Irfan, sent letters to Station Commander Brig. Hassan Raza and RCB Cantonment Executive Officer Dr. Saima Shah drawing their attention to acute water shortage the people were facing in this summer.
“At present, the RCB provides only 2.5 million gallon daily (MGD) from Khanpur Lake to CCB against the demand of 8 MGD, though the lake is full of water now a days,” the CCB Vice President Raja Irfan told Dawn.
He said the CCB had installed 10 tube wells but it was facing water shortage to meet the daily requirement of the people in the cantonment. He said the CCB had sought the station commander’s intervention to solve the problem.
He said that 10 elected members on an average received more than 100 water complaints daily. He said the water supply would improve in coming days if the water share of the CCB increased.
“The RCB claimed that the machinery at Sangjani Filtration plant had developed fault and the water share will be restored soon,” he said.
However, a senior official of the RCB told Dawn that the supply of water from Khanpur Lake had been curtailed for RCB too. He said the CCB had to pay the outstanding amount for water supply.
