KARACHI: The administrative judge of the antiterrorism courts extended on Saturday physical remand of two suspects in a case pertaining to the murder of a police inspector.

Syed Rehanuddin and Mohammed Zeeshan, said to be political activists and employees of Karachi University, have been booked for their alleged involvement in the murder of Inspector Taufiq Zahid, a key figure in the 1992 ‘Karachi operation’.

After the end of their first remand, the investigating officer reproduced them before the court and sought extension in their custody to complete the investigation. The administrative judge granted extension in their police remand till July 26.

According to the prosecution, Inspector Zahid was gunned down in a mosque in F. B. Area during Friday prayers in April 2004. Four worshippers were also suffered wounds in the attack. A case was registered at the Gulberg police station.
