Sonam did not rely on her father for her success... Because he didn't leave her a choice!

According to Indian Express, father Anil Kapoor had cut her off to compel her to make her own decisions in her personal and professional life.

Says Sonam, “My father cut me off when I was 18… He said you want to become an adult, become an adult."

The Neerja actress adds “I had to take responsibility and I did … and it is one of the best things anybody has ever done for me. You know he said that I never want to make a decision for you. I can tell you what is right or what is wrong but at the end you have to make your own decision.”

She is grateful to her father for his decision, despite having her share of setbacks. Because now, 'every misstep and every triumph' in her journey has been her own.

“I love it, because I can attribute a lot to my father … but every decision that I made in my career, every misstep and every triumph has all been my own.”

It's funny how pampered celebrities make it sound like their lives are and have been painstakingly tough. The real struggle is for the people who are living below the poverty line and scramble to have one meal a day.

It's her fathers name which made the things easier for her. She must avoid making hollow claims.

Sonam Kapoor is happy and appreciates that her father asked her make own decisions after the age of 18.It will be better if we allow children to make own decisions from much early age to enable them to grow and become self-confident

Very sensible father. Guide your kids but never thrust your decision on them.

Surprised at the amount of coverage she gets in Pakistan just because she worked with a Pakistani actor. She is a a flop actress who looks average and can't act.

What exactly does she mean by "cut me off"? I doubt Anil Kapoor financially cut her off and left her penniless at 18, or told her to go live independently, struggle to pay rent & bills etc. On the other hand, all credit goes to him (and her) for taking the approach that with legal adulthood come responsibilities, and actively embracing these principles.
