QUETTA: Dozens of villages have been badly affected due to heavy monsoon rains lashing Sibi and Bolan districts during the last 24 hours. Flash flood has also washed away many mud-houses in the affected districts.

The seasonal Nari River is filled with flood water after heavy rains in catchment areas and the water level is increasing.

Hundreds of people have been rendered homeless as their mud-houses have been damaged due to torrential rains.Official sources said that around 50,000 to 60,000 cusec of water was currently flowing through the Nari River and with the passage of time the level of flood water would further rise.

“Heavy flood is expected in the Nari River as monsoon rains were continuing in the area,” officials of the irrigation department said. However, they said that heavy machinery and staff were dispatched to the affected areas to control the situation.

Reports reaching here said that many villages, including Goth Waris Shahwani, had been badly affected as it was located close to the Nari River area. “People of the area have lost their houses, cattle and household items in the flash flood”, Saleem Gishkori, a local journalist, told Dawn, adding that the due to high flood in the river the other villages were also facing a threat and residents of these areas started moving to safe places.
