WASHINGTON: Republican Donald Trump has praised former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein’s ruthlessness, saying he killed terrorists "so good".
Trump was speaking at a rally Tuesday in North Carolina when he turned to the former Iraqi leader.
"Saddam Hussein was a bad guy, right? ... But you know what he did well? He killed terrorists. He did that so good," Trump said.
"They didn’t read ’em the rights, they didn’t talk. They were a terrorist, it was over."
Trump has previously said the world would be "100 percent better" if dictators like Hussein and Libya’s Muammar Qaddafi were still in power.
Prior to the US invasion, Iraq was listed by the State Department as a state sponsor of terrorism.
Democrat Hillary Clinton’s senior policy adviser Jake Sullivan responded in a statement, "Donald Trump’s praise for brutal strongmen seemingly knows no bounds."
Sullivan said such comments "demonstrate how dangerous he would be as Commander-in-Chief and how unworthy he is of the office he seeks".

How right he is. The world wouldn't be in this mess if Saddam and Qaddafi were in power. Iraq, Libya, Syria, Brussels, Paris etc would never have happened.

He is correct by 200 percent. I along with millions of Indians sad for that hero Saddam Hussein. He was secular never intolerant religiously. Indians deeply indebted to him.

TRUMP is a realist not a "I want to be seen by the world as a liberal and tolerant nice guy who turns the other cheek." Good on him. Arabs need strong men to rule and guide them on the straight and narrow path of being a good human else they go mad - at best, molest innocent females, make females send class citizens, are not nice to others, etc and at worst indulge in murder, mayhem, brutality, beheading, taking hostage and extreme cruelty.

On this point, I do concur with Trump. Saddam was ruthless, but at least the country was intact, it was peaceful, and there was no sectarian violence, no IS and almost daily suicide bombings that are becoming the norm in that ravaged Iraq.
US and UK broke the country, and millions have lost their lives, livelihood, or have been maimed, injured, widowed or orphaned. That did not happen until the Western powers went in and created the power vacuum that allowed groups like IS to take root.
