GHALANAI/KHAR: Two members of a former peace committee were injured in a blast in Mohmand Agency on Wednesday morning.

Sources said that unidentified persons had planted an improvised explosive device on a dirt track in Zinday Khwar Momin Kor area of Pandiali tehsil. The IED blast injured two members of a former peace committee identified as Khyal Badshah and Fazal Wahid. The injured were shifted to Peshawar in critical condition.

After the blast, security forces launched a search operation in the area but no arrest was made till filling of this report.

It merits a mention that attacks on security forces and members of peace committees are on the rise in the entire tribal region.

Mohmand Rifles spokesperson said that the tribal elder was in their custody when he suffered brain hemorrhage. He said that all medical facilities were provided to him but he died of the disease.

In Bajaur Agency, an elder of Mamond tribe narrowly escaped a roadside blast late on Tuesday.

Officials said that Malik Abdul Aziz Khan was going to his home from Inayat Kallay Bazaar in a vehicle along with his family members and friends when he was targeted with a remote-controlled bomb in Chagoo area.

The tribal elder and his entire companions remained unhurt in the blast. However, his car was partially damaged.

The local people and volunteers of peace committee rushed to the spot after they heard the blast and cordoned off the area. The local administration launched a search operation in the area.

Officials claimed that a number of suspected people were arrested during the search operation in different areas.
