LAHORE: After Karachi, rain, which may be heavy at places, is expected to lash many other regions in the country, including Punjab and Kashmir, in the next 24 hours.

Heavy rain lashed Karachi again on Wednesday.

The Met department also recorded 30mm of rain in Mirpurkhas, 18mm in Hyderabad, 16mm in Lasbela, and 31mm in Parachinar.

The Pakistan Meteoro­logical Department said the incursion of moist monsoon current from the Bay of Bengal intensified on Wednesday and it was now penetrating upper parts of the country up to 7,000ft instead of Tuesday’s 3,000ft.

A westerly wave was present over Afghanistan and western border of Pakistan, and was likely to persist during the next couple of days.

Under the influence of these meteorological conditions, more rain and thundershower with isolated heavy falls, accompanied by strong gusty winds, area expected in the next 24 hours in scattered places in Sukkur, Larkana, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Kar­achi, Kalat and Makran divisions and in isolated places in Quetta, Zhob, Rawalpindi, Gujra­nwala, Lahore, Malak­and, Hazara, Peshawar, Mardan, Dera Ismail Khan, the Federally Administered Tribal Areas, Islamabad and Kashmir.

The Flood Forecasting Division reiterated that there were ample chances of widespread thunderstorm and rain of moderate intensity with intermittent heavy falls and one or two very heavy falls along with storm in Sahiwal, Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisa­labad, Sargodha, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Kohat and D.I. Khan, July 2.

Meanwhile, it remained extremely hot and humid in the plains of Punjab. The maximum temperature in Lahore was 39 degrees Celsius with 70 per cent humidity, producing sultry weather to the great discomfort of people.
