The world produces about 1.3bn tonnes of solid waste every year, and according to World Bank data, that figure is expected to go up to 2.2bn tonnes by 2025. Additionally, the 34 industrialised countries that make up the Organisation
for Economic Cooperation and Development are responsible for about 44pc of the total waste produced today. Similar data, as well as consumer concerns about sustainability, are encouraging more businesses to increase efficiency and decrease waste.
