BUNER: A jirga was called here on Friday to take stock of the alleged presence of militants in Gadezai tehsil here.

DPO Syed Khalid Hamdani told the jirga that a joint action by army and police was in progress in the tehsil to flush militants out. He said that no one would be allowed to take law and order in his own hands, adding elders should extend help in eliminating the terrorists.

Khwaja Sikander Zeshan, the deputy commissioner, asked local elders to cooperate with the district administration in maintaining lasting peace and development of the district.

He said the district administration was eager to exploit the tourism potential of the region to improve living standard the people by increasing their income generation. He said it was planned to hold night tournaments and other activities in the district around Eidul Fitr to give people an opportunity of leisure.

District nazim Dr Obaidullah said that development funds would be best utilised for well-being of the local people.

Former president of district bar, Shams Bunery Advocate, said the murder case of the two boys in Sultanwas should be resolved amicably to ease tension between the two families as they had not approached police to register a case.

PROTEST: The people of Bampokha and Jowar villages of Salarzai tehsil on Friday staged a protest demonstration in front of the Daggar Press Club against dumping of explosives in the residential areas which was a threat to their lives. They demanded of the district administration to remove the explosives dump.

Talking to media persons, the residents said Ghulam Haider of Swabi had taken a piece of land from a local, Alamzeb Khan, at Tal Gharee near Bampokha, on the pretext that he would keep tools and machinery, but later he dumped explosives there for the purpose of mining marble in the tehsil. They said the Swabi man was now not ready to leave the place.
