LONDON: Experienced South African all-rounder Farhaan Behardien will replace injured compatriot Rilee Rossouw in the Leicestershire Foxes T20 Blast squad, the English side announced on Thursday.

The 32-year-old Behardien, who has represented South Africa in 46 one-day internationals and 25 Twenty-20s since making his international debut in 2012, is the second replacement Leicestershire have sought for Pakistani Umar Akmal.

Akmal is away playing in the Caribbean Premier League while Rossouw’s hopes of stepping in were dashed by a shoulder problem he suffered earlier this month.

“We were keen to add another overseas player to our roster for when Umar was leaving for the Caribbean Premier League and were happy to have secured Rilee’s services,” said Leicestershire elite performance director Andrew McDonald.

“Unfortunately it was a case of bad timing with the injury, so we have moved quickly to secure a quality replacement in Farhaan.

“We were looking for a batsman who can slot straight into Umar’s role and feel that Farhaan ticks all of the boxes for us. We look forward to him joining up with us in due course.”
