ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Hindu Council (PHC) on Sunday has alleged that shoes bearing the Hindu holy word ‘Om’ are being sold in Tando Adam area of Sindh.

“For the last three years, some shop keepers in Tando Adam are selling shoes which have the Hindu holy word ‘Om’ written on them on the occasion of Eid,” said PML-N’s Dr Ramesh Kumar Vankwani, who is also Patron-in-Chief of the Pakistan Hindu Council.

Vankwani alleged the purpose of displaying the word on shoes is to insult the sentiments of the Hindu community.

He also demanded an immediate ban on the display of Hindu holy words on shoes and asked the government to take action against the people involved.

“Such incidents are resulting in fueling the atmosphere of fear, insecurity and distrustfulness,” Vankwani warned.

The patron-in-chief also said the Sindh government and the local administration will be responsible for any untoward incident in the Tando Adam area.

The PHC also expressed it concern over the recent increase in murders of Hindu children in Sindh.

“It is bitter reality that Sindh Government is paying no attention towards the sufferings of minorities,” said Vankwani.

While referring to the Article 20 (a) (b) and Article 36 of the Constitution of Pakistan, he said that it is clearly mentioned in that the state shall provide the security to the minorities.
