HYDERABAD: A total of 39 new schemes have been announced for Hyderabad district in the Annual Development Plan 2016-17, according to the budget documents unveiled by Finance Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah who presented the provincial budget for the year 2016-17 in the Sindh Assembly on Saturday.

The estimated cost of the schemes has been put at over Rs6.23 billion. An allocation of over Rs1.57 billion would be made against them.

There are 59 ongoing schemes which are part of the budget and will be executed at an estimated cost of more than Rs15.54 billion. The total estimated cost of the ongoing and new schemes thus comes to over Rs21.778 billion. In addition to the allocation of over Rs1.57 billion being made for 39 new schemes, more than Rs4.08 billion will be made for the 59 ongoing schemes this year. The total allocation to be made this year for the ongoing and new schemes would be nearly Rs5.656 billion.

The finance minister announced Rs53 billion for development in Hyderabad division. Among the major schemes mentioned in the budget are improvement/construction of road between Rajputana Hospital and National Highway bypass via Gulistan-i-Sajjad village, Budho Palari, Makhdoom Rafiquzzaman Road and dual carriageway at a cost of Rs.300.548 million; repair/renovation of Govt Degree College, Kali Mori, at a cost of Rs58.677 million and establishment of a cardiology unit at the Qasimabad Taluka Hospital at a cost of Rs300 million.

The new schemes in Hyderabad district to be executed by different departments included rehabilitation and extension of the Hazrat Mohammed Shah Makki shrine at Katcha Qila at an estimated cost of Rs25 million; rehabilitation and extension of Hazrat Mehmood Shah Bukhari shrine (Rs25 million); a cultural village at Sindh Museum (Rs48 million); rehabilitation, improvement/renovation and provision of missing facilities at existing primary/elementary schools (Rs30 million); construction of a building for shelter-less primary schools (Rs20 million); rehabilitation/improvement/renovation and provision of missing facilities at secondary/higher secondary schools (Rs20 million); repair/renovation of the Govt Degree College, Kali Mori (Rs58.677 million); construction of B-Tech department (Rs143.428 million); establishment of the Mehran Institute of Cardiovascular and Chest Diseases (Rs800 million); establishment of a burns ward at the Liaquat University Hospital (Rs150 million); establishment of a site for the glass bangles industry on 40 acres (Rs350 million); establishment of combined effluent treatment plant at the Hyderabad SITE (Rs400 million); construction of water and sewerage system in Latifabad’s union committees 66, 67, 68, 69, 73, 74, 75 & 76 (Rs60 million); rehabilitation of old water treatment plant off Jamshoro Road (Rs20 million); construction of sewerage pumping stations, sewerage lines, supply of machinery in Latifabad (Rs100 million); construction of brick masonary/RCC French drain around lagoons in Qasimabad (Rs39.167 million); rehabilitation and restoration of 110-foot-wide and 24-foot black top Mulakatiar road (Rs320 million); construction of major connecting roads of villages (Rs90 million); construction of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto flyover including approach road and allied components (Rs350million).

Other new schemes are construction/improvement of road, retaining wall along the right side of old Phulleli canal from bypass to Paretabad bridge (Rs750 million); improvement/construction of various asphalt roads, drains (Rs220 million); improvement and reconditioning of Dhani Bux Mian road in Latifabad Unit-10 (Rs40 million); rehabilitation of Baldia School building (Rs10 million); feasibility study of an integrated medical hazardous waste management project (Rs20 million); establishment of sanitary landfill site (Rs430 million); rural drainage scheme at Detha Station in Narejani UC (Rs25 million); and Usman Shah rural drainage scheme in Narejani UC (Rs25 million).
