ISLAMABAD: Former president and PPP’s co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari rejected the assertion that he has reached some “understanding” with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on the issue of Panama leaks.

“Pakistan People’s Party has a clear stance on Panama Leaks and rumours about reaching an understanding with Nawaz Sharif are not true, baseless and ill-indented,” Zardari said in statement on Sunday.

The former president not only contradicted the reports regarding reaching an understanding with the prime minister, he also stated categorically that “his party has already decided to pursue the Panama leaks issue till its logical conclusion”.

“A parliamentary committee has already been setup, which is engaged in drawing up the terms of reference (ToRs) for investigations and the procedure in this regard and there is no question of ignoring it,” he maintained.

Zardari said “PPP has arrived at a well considered stance on the issue after having due deliberations, not only within the party but also with all other political parties”.

The former president also denied the news of him meeting the JUI-F’s chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman in London.

“Media reports are being fabricated to give an impression that I hold a different stance on the issue,” said the PPP co-chairman and termed these speculations as baseless.

Last month, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had put an end to speculations regarding an expected meeting between Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and former president Asif Ali Zardari, both of whom are in London for ‘medical’ reasons.

PPP leaders believe that their chairman’s message was in line with the thought process and party policy designed after the Panama Papers disclosure.
