LAKKI MARWAT: Deputy commissioner Mohammad Bakhtiar Khan has urged the ulema to play an effective role in promoting brotherhood, religious harmony and peace in the district during the upcoming month of Ramazan.

He was talking to prominent clerics, who met him at his office here on Friday. The deputy commissioner said people respected what ulema said.

DPO Hasan Iqbal, Naurang tehsil nazim Maulana Ezazullah, district zakat committee chairman Maulana Asadullah Haqqani, district khateeb Maulana Abdul Wahab and district councillor Maulana Asghar Ali were also in attendance.

On the occasion, the religious scholars presented valuable suggestions to the administration for ensuring sustainable peace and harmony in the district.

They also assured of extending all out support to the administration and police in peaceful observance of the holy month.

Mr Bakhtiar said religious scholars could play significant role in promotion of tolerance, peace and harmony.

“Islam is the religion of peace and tolerance and ulema should teach its followers to promote these principles,” he maintained. He also requested ulema to advise traders through sermons to avoid indulging in hoarding, profiteering and adulteration during Ramazan.

He said police with the support of ulema would ensure durable peace and tranquility during the holy month.

SCOUTING ACTIVITIES: Speakers at a certificate distribution ceremony on Friday called upon the heads of schools to revive scouting activities at their respective institutions for physical and mental growth and character building of students.

The ceremony was held at Government High School No 2, Lakki city. ESED officials, school heads, scout leaders and boy scouts were in attendance. Quaid-i-Azam scout certificates were distributed among boy scouts.

The speakers said scouting enabled people to become good citizens, and stressed the need for promoting scouting activities at public sector schools.

They said scouts always helped people in calamities and distress.

They said taking active part in scouting activities would also make students groom their personality and improve self-confidence.

They asked for making scouting activities an essential part of students’ education.
