LAHORE: Two labourers were killed and three others injured in separate incidents in the city on Saturday.

In the first hit, a man was electrocuted and his two colleagues were injured when an electricity wire fell into the BRB Canal in Batapur.

An Edhi Foundation spokesman said Naveed, Shahbaz and Waseem of Shadbagh went to the BRB Canal near Khera Bridge to beat the heat.

He said they were taking a bath when a power cable accidentally cut off from the nearby pole and fell into the canal. The bathers suffered electric shock and fell unconscious.

The spokesman said some passersby after disconnecting the wire pulled them out and took them to hospital where doctors declared Waseem dead. The other two were said to be stable.

Batapur police removed the body to morgue and recorded statements of eyewitnesses.

Police said the young men, workers of a bag manufacturing factory, went to the canal for picnic when the incident took place.

In another incident, a labourer died and another injured when lift of a paper factory collapsed in Shafiqabad.

Police said Daniyal Shahzad and Shafiq were employed with Shahid Packages, Bund Road. The workers were using electric lift to transport the paper to third floor when it broke down. They suffered critical injuries and were shifted to hospital where Shahzad succumbed to his wounds and Shafiq was said to be critical.
