LAHORE: The Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) and Gulab Devi Chest Hospital will collaborate for treatment of cardiac patients to reduce the burden on PIC.
For the purpose, a referral system was being introduced involving both the healthcare facilities for exchange of cardiac patients.
The decision was taken during a visit of the health authorities and medical experts to both the hospitals here on Saturday.
Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Secretary Najam Ahmed Shah, Additional Secretary (Development) Zaheer Abbas Malik, Additional Secretary Technical Dr Salman Shahid, PIC Chief Executive Prof Nadeem Hayat Mallick, King Edward Medical University’s (KEMU) Prof Dr Asad Aslam Khan, Allama Iqbal Medical College Principal Prof Mahmood Shaukat and Gulab Devi Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr Muhammad Hamid visited the hospital, besides Adviser to Chief Minister on Health Salman Rafique.
Collaboration to ease burden on cardiac facility
The officials visited the cardiology emergency, medical wards, cardiac surgery unit and angiography section of both the institutes.
On the occasion, Najam Ahmed Shah said infrastructure of the cardiac department of GDH had the capacity to accommodate more patients.
He said the Punjab government would provide special funds to GDH for utilising the human resource and medical equipment of the facility.
The secretary further said a linkage would be established among all the public sector teaching hospitals of Lahore where the cardiac treatment facilities were available.
He said patients data and information about the number of available beds in these hospitals would be shared through the linkage system to accommodate maximum patients.
Mr Shah directed the officials and senior doctors concerned that cardiology departments of public sector teaching hospitals should be run according to their capacity to ease the burden on the PIC.
