RAWALPINDI: The process of hiring 1,890 teachers in the district’s government schools started on Friday. Interviews will continue till June 7.
The provincial government established a five-member committee led by District Coordination Officer Talat Mehmood for making the recruitments. The committee also includes executive district officers finance, planning and education, the district monitoring officer and a representative of the Punjab government.
More than 4,000 applications were received for the 1,890 posts of which 2,459 cleared the test. The committee will hire teachers from those who cleared the test and will publish a final list in mid-June.
A senior official at the City District Government Rawalpindi told Dawn that fewer applications had been received for the posts compared to the last three years.
He said last time 9,000 applications were received.
Talking to Dawn, Punjab Teachers Association president Chaudhry Sagheer Alam said the government wanted to privatise schools and that “a teacher will be paid Rs1,500 a month and will remain on contract for three to five years which is not enough for professional degree holders”.
