LAHORE/SARGODHA: The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) of police claimed on Friday to have arrested a suspected militant belonging to banned Al Qaeda from Khushab district.

A CTD spokesman claimed that a police team after receiving information raided a house in Khushab district and arrested suspected militant Ishtiaqur Rehman of Noshehra.

The spokesman said the police team also recovered explosives, detonators and wire from his custody.

He said initial investigation revealed that the suspected militant belonged to Al Qaeda’s Yaqub-Mukhtar group of Mianwali and was involved in several cases.

He said CTD police station had registered a case against the suspected militant under 4/5 ESA and 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA).

A member of the raiding team claiming anonymity said Rehman was planning to hit a Juma congregation in Ramazan.

Meanwhile, in a search operation in various localities of Sargodha, police detained six suspects.
