SWABI: The district administration on Friday demolished the famous Abaseen Hotel built on the edge of Indus River downstream Tarbela Dam. The hotel was allegedly built on the land of Tarbela and Ghazi Barotha dams.

The police and officials of the district administration and Tarbela and Ghazi Barotha dams reached the area early in the morning and ordered the workers present there to vacate the hotel immediately.

The officials said that the stay order had been vacated and there was no justification now with the owner to run the hotel which was allegedly built on the properly of Tarbela and Ghazi Barotha dams.

The operation was led by assistant deputy commissioner Imran Hussain.

DC says vacated 60 kanals handed over to the dam authorities

It has been learnt that none of the members of the family of the owner were allowed to enter the demolished site of the hotel.

Officials said that about four months ago when the district administration and the dam authorities planned to get the hotel vacated the owner had acquired a stay order from the court.

Sources said that the hotel owner had claimed that they also owned property in the hotel area and the government should mark it for them.

Deputy commissioner Matiullah Khan told this correspondent that the hotel was built on 60 kanals. “The hotel area was the property of Tarbela Dam and Ghazi Barotha Dam,” he said, adding that the district administration had handed over the vacated area to the dams’ authorities.

The hotel was built about two decades ago and it was one of the busy points for people of the district offering delicious fish. Besides eating fish the visitors would also enjoy the beautiful view of downstream of Tarbela Dam.
