SARGODHA: Two criminals were arrested after a heavy quantity of arms and ammunition was seized from a car loaded onto a truck being transported to Punjab from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa near the Kotmomin Motorway Interchange, some 40kms from here, on Wednesday.

A police team headed by Kotmomin SDPO Muhammad Riaz stopped the truck and, upon checking the car loaded onto it, recovered two Kalashnikovs, nine repeaters, 70 pistols of 30 bore and 9MM, 2,120 bullets of Kalashnikov, 25,400 of pistol and 1,000 of rifle besides 56 magazines.

Police arrested truck driver Malik Aman of Najna Mansehra and another accused while their two accomplices managed to escape.

The arrested driver told police that the ‘innovative method’ of transporting arms and ammunition to Punjab was adopted to dodge the police.

He said the smuggled arms and ammunition were to be used in terror activities in different parts of Punjab during Ramazan.

DPO retired Capt Sohail Chaudhry told reporters that police got the intimation about the suspected truck from Islamabad.

He said that Regional Police Officer Zulfiqar Hameed had issued direction to plug all exit points from the KP to stop smuggling of arms and narcotics into the Punjab attachments areas.

LAUNCHED: The Labour Department as parts of the project EBLIK-4D has launched a scheme to issue National Identity Cards to kiln workers.

The cards were distributed among the workers in a special ceremony held at a kiln on Lahore Road here on Wednesday. DCO Saqib Manan was the chief guest.

The DCO said the scheme was necessary to give identity to labourers as it would help in curtailing incidents of oppression against the working class.

NO COMPLIANCE: All private schools which did not comply with the government instruction to observe summer vacation from Oct 24 were issued show-cause notices on Wednesday.

The private schools which were issued notices include Convent Presentation School, University Road; Leadership Girls School, Way of Hope School System, Oxford School, Future Care School System, Wisdom Model School and Allied School, Kotmomin.

Executive District Officer (Education) Liaquat Ali Nasir said the registration of these schools would be cancelled if they failed to give any plausible reason.
