KARACHI: Despite a straight whitewash at the hands of India in the semi-final, Pakistan 1 clinched bronze medal in the fourth Asian Team Event snooker championship at Abu Dhabi on Wednesday.

According to results made available here, after making it to the knockout stage the other day, both the Pakistan outfits figured against each other in the quarter-final where Pakistan 1 overcome Pakistan 2 by 3-2 frames in the best of five battle.

The Mohammad Asif and Asjad Iqbal duo accounted for the combination of Mohammad Bilal and Babar Masih 61-16, 67-60, 33-90, 0-93, 67-57 to cruise into last four.

India, who blanked UAE 1 straight 3-0 in the other quarters, halted Pakistan 1 chances defeating them 73-16, 83-25, 92-8 without getting any resistance to step into the final.

Holders Iran 1 chalked up an emphatic 3-0 victory over Malaysia in the second semi-final to set a final clash with India on Thursday.
